Gemma Harwood has specialized in the human form as well as using her skills on her love of animals. Her most recent artworks incorporate maps which she sculpts and manipulates to form a 3-dimensional tree with stylised branches and leaves. The maps are still left visible and the locations are carefully chosen such as in her London Map Trees. Each artwork is also encased with resin adding a final layer and sealing the fragile maps in place. Gemma will often also utilise gold leaf to add another layer of texture and colour.
Education
Obtained her B.A. in Art for Community, University Surrey.
In 2004 Gemma was a finalist in the B.P. Portrait Awards in a year of record entries, and exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
