Framed Size: 30 x 30 cm
Living in rural Kent, I am inspired by seasonal changes and the alterations in light, colour and texture of the local landscape. The scenery and atmosphere of Dungeness and the surrounding area also influence my work.
As well as changing environments and weather, I also reference smaller shapes and forms within the landscape. Wet beach pebbles, winter leafless branches, animal tracks, hedgerows and long evening shadows.
Sea and landscapes are the main narrative, although the paintings often describe atmosphere rather than being literal representations. I roughly plan the work but generally paint intuitively, making spontaneous decisions and problem solving as a painting develops. Many layers, some translucent, create depth of colour.
